The Inflation Reduction Act, also known as the IRA, was passed by the Democrats as part of the reconciliation process and, among other things, helped set the cost of insulin at $35.

The president Joe Biden noted this first step in the negotiations cut costs and criticized the “record profits” being made by drug companies.

“While the pharmaceutical industry is making record profits, millions of Americans are being forced to choose between paying for the drugs they need to live or paying for food, rent and other basic needs,” Biden lamented.

He noted that the selected drugs are among the most common and expensive prescription drugs for the treatment of known chronic degenerative diseases such as heart failure, thrombosis, diabetes, arthritis and Crohn’s disease.

“When implementing Negotiated drug prices to drop for 9 million older peopleBiden was celebrating. “These seniors are currently paying up to $6,497 a year for these prescriptions.”

He added that price cut negotiations would save taxpayers $160 billion in Medicare payments, according to the Congressional Budget Office.

“This plan is a key part of bidenomics, my economic vision to develop the economy from the center and bottom up, not top down,” Biden said.

The president said drug companies have filed eight lawsuits against the Biden administration, resulting in $400 million being spent to end drug cut plans.

“Let me be clear: I’m not going to back down,” Biden said. “There is no reason why Americans should pay more than any developed country for vital prescriptions just to line the pockets of Big Pharma.”
