According to journalists, the crew detained the intruder and therefore the plane landed safely at Portland airport. The man is now accused of attempting to murder more than 80 people.
A pilot in the United States attempted to cut off the fuel supply to the engines of an Alaska Airlines passenger plane. The New York Times reports this.
According to reporters, the plane took off from Everett, Washington, and was headed for San Francisco. The pilot, who then rested in the cockpit, tried to shut down the fuel supply by activating the fire extinguishing system.
Fortunately, the crew was reportedly able to quickly return the fuel supply and also take the man to another location. As another pilot at the controls said, his colleague who almost caused the plane to crash was depressed.
Police said the crew detained the intruder, so the plane landed safely at Portland airport. Law enforcement identified him as Joseph Emerson. He was arrested and detained. He was charged with more than 80 counts of attempted murder. He was also charged with reckless endangerment.
According to Alaska Airlines, there were 4 crew members and 80 passengers on board.
Former airline captain Michael Jernigan said off-duty pilots hitchhiked on the flight deck.
“Pilots are well-mannered; they put a lot of money and time into their work,” Jernigan said.
He said he could only guess what prompted the off-duty pilot to sabotage the flight. He thinks this part is very scary.
Let us remind you that a student pilot in the USA disabled 10 planes at the same time. The man became angry when his school teachers did not allow him to fly independently. Security cameras captured the student moving from plane to plane, causing damage to each one.
