The US Senate voted against the withdrawal of US troops from Niger.
According to Defense News, only 11 out of 100 senators supported the withdrawal of the American military contingent.
Currently, there are approximately 1.1 thousand American troops in Niger.
It is worth noting that the French military had previously left Niger.
On October 9, the National Council for the Salvation of the Homeland (Niger’s provisional government) announced that the withdrawal of French troops would begin on October 10.
Let us recall that in early September, the rebel-appointed Prime Minister of Niger, Ali Mahamane Lamin Zein, said that the French military were in his country illegally. Negotiations were announced on their withdrawal from the state.
In response to this, on September 24, French President Emmanuel Macron recalled his ambassadors from Niger and announced that French soldiers would also leave this country in the near future.
