Blake Butler, 44, says uncovering such a big lie helped him cope with the loss more easily.
44-year-old American writer Blake Butler unexpectedly learned about the secret life of his 39-year-old wife Molly Brodak, who was also a writer and teacher, after her tragic suicide. The New York Post writes that the man recently published a memoir called “Molly”, in which he describes in detail the story of their unhappy love.

Blake met his girlfriend on Facebook. The woman immediately shared her difficult childhood with him. He robbed banks to pay off his father’s gambling debts and went to prison twice, she said. Since his mother was diagnosed with bipolar personality disorder, he did not pay enough attention to her. And Molly herself somehow robbed a store and then ended up behind bars.
But as it turned out, that wasn’t all. Molly used heroin when she was 12, let her boyfriends burn her with cigarettes, and was generally legally married when she started dating Blake.
An American man revealed the horrific truth while searching for photos of the deceased on his phone to make a slideshow for a funeral retrospective. What he saw in the archive files truly shocked him. Among the piles of photos were photos of her posing in underwear and with sex toys. His close correspondence with numerous lovers has also been preserved. And this is just a few weeks after the wedding.
Digging deeper, Blake Butler found a trove of obscene emails from students at the various universities where he taught.
“I also found correspondence with some poets. He was supposed to fly to have sex with her. Molly sent him money several times, only about 1,500 dollars (about 55 thousand UAH),” the man said, adding that the explanation was so exaggerated. Large-scale lying helped him cope with the loss more easily.
He concluded that the deceased Molly probably had a personality disorder.
Now Butler has found new love and got married. He lives happily in Baltimore with his new girlfriend.
The man concluded: “Next to Molly, I realized that I was not looking for love, but a way to destroy myself.”
Let’s remember this before Focus He wrote about American Caroline Rick, who decided to take original revenge on her ex-boyfriend and appeared at her wedding in a snow-white dress, like a bride’s.
We also talked about an Argentinian man who found out about his girlfriend’s betrayal and came up with an unusual idea on how to really piss her off.
