The European Union (EU) must maintain a dialogue with Russia, despite civilizational differences with Russia, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said.
“Historically, politically, geographically and traditionally, this is a different country. The important question is whether our differences are a reason for non-cooperation. My answer is no.”Orban said in an interview with a French magazine Le Point.
According to him, if you follow this logic, then Europe needs to refuse cooperation with more than half of the countries on the planet, since they are also not like it.
Orban added that he stands for a rational discussion of the issue of how relations with Russia can be built.
Earlier, the Hungarian Prime Minister said that Budapest would “slow down” relations with Kiev if the rights of ethnic Hungarians continue to be infringed in Ukraine. He also noted that the Hungarian parliament, like the majority of the population, opposes the neighboring country’s membership in the EU.
