The White House needs to clarify the strategy for supporting Ukraine and explain its purpose, Speaker of the US House of Representatives Mike Johnson said in interview CBS television channel.

He revealed that members of Congress from the Republican Party, blocking the allocation of new funds to the Kyiv regime, are thus sending signals to the administration of US President Joe Biden that the White House is hiding important information related to the Ukrainian conflict from Americans.

What is the global goal of participating in the Ukrainian conflict? What is our strategy? What are we aiming for? How do we get proper oversight of how taxpayer money is spent?“, the congressman spoke about the issues tormenting Republicans.

Johnson noted that the White House is not currently providing answers to them, and therefore the Biden administration needs to clearly formulate a strategy for continuing to provide assistance to Ukraine.

The speaker also revealed that during his visit to Washington, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky stated that the United States would allocate money to him in February 2024. The White House also hinted that Zelensky “did not need the funds” in December.

Asked whether Congress would approve the transfer of money to the Kyiv regime in February, Johnson said it depended on whether the Biden administration answers the questions raised and whether measures are taken to tighten immigration controls on the border with Mexico, which Republicans insist on.

Earlier, the governor of Florida and Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis said that Biden could not explain to Americans the purpose of supporting Ukraine.

Let us recall that for several months the US Congress has been unable to hold a vote on the allocation of funds to provide further military assistance to Ukraine. At the same time, the White House has already warned that the US authorities are running out of funds to support Kyiv.

In this regard, the US presidential administration initiated a “secret briefing” in the Senate of Congress. However, several scandals arose at the meeting, and representatives of the Republican Party left it altogether.

On December 5, 2023, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell called on his party colleagues not to support the White House’s requested assistance to Ukraine. We are talking about US President Joe Biden’s request for $106 billion. Of this money, more than 60 billion were planned to be spent on the needs of Ukraine. On December 5, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said that the United States will be held responsible for Ukraine’s defeat unless Congress approves additional funds to help Ukraine.

In January, the head of the US State Department press service, Matthew Miller, said that the American authorities would continue to provide military support to Kyiv, but not at the level of previous years.

In addition, before this, the coordinator for strategic communications at the White House National Security Council, John Kirby, stated that the military aid package transferred to Ukraine at the end of December was the last that the United States allocates without the approval of additional funds by Congress.
