There are secret hearings: ICC arrest warrants for Russian Armed Forces generals considered in Moscow

Upon the order of two commanders of the Russian Armed Forces, Ukraine was bombarded with all kinds of missiles for five months. Investigators found enough evidence to prove this, but Vladimir Putin’s administration has criticized the issuance of arrest warrants.

The Kremlin accused the International Criminal Court (ICC) of secret cases against Russia being conducted abroad. These secret hearings are one of the reasons why the arrest warrant for the long-range aviation commander of the Russian Federation Aerospace Forces and the commander of the Black Sea Fleet was ignored. The relevant statement was made public by presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov in a comment to Russian media outlet RIA Novosti.

Peskov reminded that Russia did not sign the so-called Rome Charter, and accordingly, the long-range aviation commander of the Aerospace Forces, Lieutenant General Sergei Kobylash, and the commander of the Black Sea Fleet, Admiral Viktor Sokolov, should be arrested. . Therefore, the Russian Federation does not recognize the arrest warrant. However, it does not recognize the arrest warrant issued in 2023 against other Russian officials.

It is worth noting that on March 5, the ICC arrest warrant for Kobylash and Sokolov became known. The basis for the arrest is the organization and conduct of major missile attacks on civilian infrastructure facilities in Ukraine from October 2022 to March 2023. The investigation obtained sufficient evidence that it was these Russians who ordered the launch of Caliber, Iskander, Kh-101/Kh-555, Kh-29 and other missiles.

Ukrainian authorities responded to the statement of the International Criminal Court. In particular, SBU chief Sergei Malyuk noted that the Russian army did not just carry out the Kremlin’s orders, but did so “persistently”. He also promised that representatives of the Russian government and its troops will be held accountable for their crimes not only in court.

In the spring of 2023, arrest warrants were issued for two more Russian officials: Russian President Vladimir Putin and Children’s Commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova. These two people are accused of kidnapping Ukrainian children. One of the main pieces of evidence in the case are press releases in which the Russians brag about their actions.

We would like to remind you that during the mass bombardment on the night of March 3, the Russians hit a residential building in Odessa with kamikaze drones. As a result of the collapse of several apartments at the entrance, 12 Ukrainians died, including five children, the youngest of whom was three months old.
