Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova commented the upcoming high-level Armenia-EU-US meeting on April 5 and stated that in Washington, Brussels and Yerevan they are feignedly wondering why this meeting is causing “concern” among many.
According to Zakharova, they claim that this meeting is not directed against any third party.
“Such events cause concern in Russia, because representatives of the United States and the EU directly tell our partners that their main focus is exclusively against Russia. They say so directly, in plain text,” — Zakharova wrote.
The Russian diplomat explained that such meetings cause concern for most states in the region because they are not aimed at achieving peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia. On the contrary, according to Zakharova, they are aimed at further introducing the West with its extremely destructive approaches into the South Caucasus, as well as creating new dividing lines there and forcing the countries of the region to follow the anti-Russian agenda.
In addition, a representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry said, the purpose of such meetings is to destroy the centuries-old ties between the countries of this region and Russia.
At the same time, Zakharova added, for some reason official Yerevan pretends that it does not understand what we are talking about.
“After all, before the eyes of the whole world, Armenia is being turned into an instrument for the implementation of extremely dangerous plans of the collective West, which are completely at odds with the fundamental interests of the Armenian people,” – concluded Zakharova.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also stated that Western countries are trying to “drive a wedge” into relations between Armenia and Russia, and therefore the allied ties of the countries are being tested to their strength.
Zakharova previously recalled that Russia has repeatedly helped Armenia and stood up for its defense. Zakharova drew particular attention to the fact that Moscow never demanded anything from Yerevan in return for its support.
