As time passes and the already anticipated presidential election moves ever closer, political figures with increasingly hidden aspirations are beginning to emerge in increasingly diverse and polarizing public spaces. Although any mechanism political electoral focuses on visibility and, as a result, popularity, the tools from which communication strategies and media work are drawn are evolving.

Although technology has made it possible to diversify media tools and scales, the reality is that in our country, television is the most popular medium, in much the same way as radio, which in Mexico creates the phenomenon of a special audience, being one of the largest consumers. in the world; however, with the advent of the Internet and the subsequent quantum leap in sociocultural paradigms, today social networks determine elections.

From the point of view of the media base, hard voting is based on the bulk of the population that consumes television and radio to be informed and entertained, while the younger audience, translated as “undecided voice”, is the one that “inhabits” the digital space. The big difference is that now it is the masses who create the content and democratize the way everything is conveyed, including, of course, politics.

The above is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, this means the possibility of reaching out to an interconnected, informed and daring generation demanding much more from its political representation, and on the other hand, an agglutination of expressive, “digestible” and vulgar content invading an important range of content on the network.

Unfortunately, in Mexico and around the world, politicians have had to adapt to these new platforms to often find it appropriate to advertise participation in trampolining classes or wearing make-up due to The day of the Dead. By this, I do not mean that I consider them strategies to be criticized, freedom of expression should always be protected, however, when these actions take place during the performance of other public offices and / or there is at least a suspicion that there is funding with resources, overly public, this should be specified and controlled if necessary.

The present times have shown us that it is more important than ever to promote the building of a public ethic based on respectability and legitimacy for the exchange of ideas. The bitterness we feel today is the result of the government’s lack of interest even in advancing dialogue, let alone consensus.

The elections are still far away, this is only the beginning, we will see the scope of the will in the face of urgent and very painful realities that will have to continue to wait.
