For the first time in history: an electric car unexpectedly became the leader of the Ukrainian car market

The Ukrainian automobile market grew by 65.7% in September. Off-road models are most in demand.

September has become a turning point for the Ukrainian automobile market. For the first time in history, an electric car (Volkswagen ID.4 crossover) has become the leader in the new car segment. This is evidenced by statistics from the Automotive Market Research Institute.

The Volkswagen ID.4 electric car found 342 buyers, ahead of the Toyota RAV4 (326 cars sold). In third place is Renault Duster (248 units). It is noteworthy that there are eight crossovers and SUVs in the TOP 10.

In August, Ukrainians bought a total of 5.8 thousand new passenger cars. This is 3.3% less than in August, but 65.7% more than in September 2022.

The majority of cars (91.9%) are imported. Only Skoda Kodiaq and Karoq crossovers are produced in Ukraine. Almost half of the cars (2869 or 49.2%) were purchased in Kiev and the Kiev region. They also buy cars from Dnepropetrovsk (472 units), Odessa (369 units) and Lviv (345 units) regions.

There are also changes in the camp of the leading brands. While Toyota (932 units) maintained its first place, Volkswagen (671 units) and BMW (496 units) rose to second and third places, respectively.

Ukrainians bought 45.7 thousand new passenger cars in just 9 months of 2023; This is 59.2% more than the same period last year.
