In Tatarstan, they are investigating the circumstances of the death of 39-year-old Denis Batmanov, who decided to remove two teeth in March, but was paralyzed and died in Kazan four months later. Even before the death of the man, a criminal case was initiated under the article “Performance of work or provision of services that do not meet safety requirements.” How did standard medical procedure lead to the tragedy?

Two surgeries and a coma

In March, Batmanov decided to go to a dental clinic in Nizhnekamsk. Relatives at first did not attach much importance to a visit to the doctors. His wife Victoria told local media that Denis removed two teeth at once, but after a couple of days his cheek began to swell.

“The husband did not attach any importance to this and returned home to Kazan. The edema increased, then Denis called the surgeon who removed his tooth. He said that there was no reason to worry, but just in case he gave the contacts of his dentist friend”– quotes the words of a woman portal ntr-24.ru.

So the days passed, but the swelling did not subside. The “cheek” hung down and reached the neck. In addition, she was constantly sick. Only then the father of two children decided to go to the hospital after all. They were horrified and decided to urgently do the operation.

Serious problems arose during the procedure – the patient’s heart stopped. The doctors managed to start the “motor”, only the swollen trachea prevented oxygen from being supplied in time. Denis suffered brain damage, he was put into a medically induced coma and connected to a ventilator.

Paralyzed patient

After leaving the coma, everything changed for Denis. He could no longer move or talk on his own. He had to be fed by relatives – the patient himself was in a vegetative state.

“The rehabilitation center discharged my father saying that they couldn’t do anything else. Like, he will always remain like that. Now dad is with his family in a private house.”– she said then “KP-KazanArina, the eldest daughter of Denis.

The girl believed that her father was paralyzed due to a combination of circumstances. But part of the blame, she said, could lie with the surgeons who operated on Batmanov. According to her, the doctors should have known that the likelihood of swelling during such operations is high, and did not pass the tube into the trachea.

The doctors of the rehabilitation center told Denis’s wife that the dynamics of recovery was “very weak”. And the head of the department even assumed that the patient would remain in this state until the end of his life.

The prosecutor’s office of Nizhnekamsk conducted an investigation after the appearance of reports in the local media, and the materials were transferred to the investigating authorities.

Rehabilitation issues

The wife of the injured patient said that Denis had recently been with his aunt, who had previously taken care of him.

“In addition to relatives, the company where my husband worked helps us a lot, both financially and in solving a number of issues. There is a friend Victor who did not leave us in trouble. In general, we are grateful to all our friends and colleagues, no one remains indifferent”added Victoria.

The family hoped that it would be possible to achieve free rehabilitation or treatment abroad.

However, on the night of August 17, Denis died – after four months of torment, the man died.
