Fiona Ma for California State Treasurer

If California were a bank, Fiona Ma would be its manager. In fact, since January 2019, she has been the State Treasurer.

The role of the public treasurer is broad and includes many responsibilities, including managing public investments and selling government bonds. He chairs 13 state boards and commissions, including one that oversees the civil servants’ pension system and provides public funding for affordable housing and infrastructure projects. He also chairs the California Office of School Finance, which funds schools for some of the most disadvantaged students.

Before running for office, Ma had an honorable political and administrative career.

Between 2014 and 2018, she was a member of the California State Equalization Board, of which she later became president.

From 2006 to 2012, he represented the San Francisco region in the State Assembly. She served as Democratic Majority Leader and interim president of that legislature for two years.

She was previously elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, where she served from 2002 to 2006.

Now this certified accountant and daughter of Chinese immigrants is running for re-election in the Nov. 8 election.

His opponent is Republican Jack Guerrero, a member of the Kudahy city council. Guerrero considers himself a “permanent thorn in the side of the left establishment” and accuses his rival and the state legislature of corruption and subversion. What California needs in this position is not a militant and extremist politician, but a responsible and sensitive administrator.

La Opinion supports Fiona Ma and encourages its readers to vote for her.

During his trip, California refinanced billions of dollars in bonds to reinvest in critical public services, including clean energy projects, transportation, affordable housing, and hundreds of millions of dollars to help fight the homeless crisis. He oversaw an increase in tax credit applications. During the pandemic, he set up credit lines for the hardest hit public and charter schools, as well as hospitals and clinics, ready to be used.

Bass began to streamline the long-standing complicated rules for applying for housing projects. We hope that if he wins the election, he will continue to make the process of applying for and approving public funding less bureaucratic.

Ma continued to contribute to legislative work and, as treasurer, sponsored several bills.

Through her leadership of the Treasury, her leadership skills, and her work on behalf of communities of color, we support Fiona Ma’s re-election. So vote for Fiona Ma as Treasurer of California on November 8th!
