There is trench warfare on the front line, and civilian quadcopters play an important role in it.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine uses civilian, not military, drones, especially models of the DJI Mavic line, on the front lines. Volunteer Alexander Karpyuk, known by the pseudonym Serg Marco, explained his reasons on his Facebook page.
Today, a large number of Mavic aircraft used to correct fire and bombardment fly over Ukraine. As Alexander Karpyuk explained, Ukrainian and Russian troops are no longer fighting on the first line with equipment, but in small groups and in trenches. Both sides use drones to repel attacks or take over positions by dropping grenades from the air.
Mavik is an integral part of today’s attacks on both sides,” he said.
He added that due to the fog and low clouds in front, large aircraft type UAVs are not used in practice because they do not work in such conditions. There are stupid commanders on both the Russian and Ukrainian sides, forcing operators to launch such drones and reconnaissance, despite the risks.
“But the correction is now mainly done by Mavics, it doesn’t care about the 250-300m high clouds as the helicopter can hover at low altitude, so there’s no one to fly outside of Mavic and Matrice,” Alexander Karpyuk explained.
During a war, up to two dozen drones can fly in one sector and perform various tasks, which becomes the main target of electronic warfare systems. Operators need to know how the electronic warfare system of the RF Armed Forces works, which brigades have which complexes. Otherwise, the Mavic will be hit very quickly by enemies or by itself.
Earlier, they wrote about how the Armed Forces of Ukraine used civilian drones on the front line, which the Ministry of Defense called “wedding”. They are very effective tools, according to experts, but require skill and training from the pilot.
