5 asteroids fly to Earth at the same time, one of them the size of two football fields: what is known

NASA has presented a list of dangerous space rocks that will soon approach our planet.

NASA is constantly monitoring asteroids approaching Earth. Scientists working daily at the Center for Near-Earth Objects Research are observing the movement of some space rocks that could pose a threat to Earth. HiTech writes that in the next 7 days, 5 fairly large asteroids will simultaneously fly towards us at great speed.

Scientists from NASA gave information about five dangerous asteroids that will pass by our planet next week and should not cause any harm to our planet.

According to NASA classification, such a space rock is considered potentially dangerous if an asteroid is wider than 140 meters and flies closer than 7.5 million km from Earth. It is believed that even a 100-meter-sized meteorite can cause significant damage as a result of falling on the planet. If the asteroid is at least 1 km wide, it could lead to a global catastrophe.

For this reason, scientists from NASA daily observe near-Earth asteroids whose orbits intersect with Earth’s orbit. Any space rock large enough can change its flight path and thus fall onto the planet. Observations are being made in near-Earth space to prepare for such an event development.

Although scientists are not always able to identify an asteroid that can enter the Earth’s atmosphere in time. As already written FocusThis happened two weeks ago, when a small space rock was discovered just hours before it hit the planet.

According to scientists, in the near future near-Earth asteroids will be located at a dangerous distance from Earth. On the list of 5 asteroids that will soon approach the planet, the most dangerous is a 223-metre-wide stone, twice the length of a football field. This asteroid will also be located very close to Earth.

Which asteroids will be of concern in the next few days?

  • At the top of the list is a 32-metre-wide asteroid named 2023 CG1. On Saturday, February 25, a space rock the height of a nine-story building will approach Earth at a distance of 5.8 million km. Now it is flying in space at a speed of 23,328 km / h.
  • And on Sunday, February 26, an asteroid named 2023 DA should fly past our planet. This 18-meter-wide stone will be located 1 million km from Earth. This is almost three times farther from the Moon. As for the flight speed, it is 21,132 km / h.
  • Monday, February 27th is going to be really tough. The fact is that a potentially dangerous huge asteroid 2012 DK31 with a diameter of 143 meters will fly to Earth at a distance of 4.8 million km. Its speed is an astonishing 55,944 km/h.
  • For the fourth day in a row, Tuesday, February 28, a 145-metre asteroid named 2006 BE55 should fly past Earth. This day will be at a distance of 3.5 ml km from our planet, and its flight speed is 47,936 km / h.
  • And finally, exactly one week later, on Friday, March 3, the most dangerous asteroid on this list, named 2007 ED125, will approach Earth from a distance of 4.4 million km. The flight speed is also impressive – 47,032 km / h.

Three of the above asteroids, both in size and distance from our planet, fit the definition of “potentially dangerous asteroid.” While NASA believes that all 5 space rocks will bypass Earth, remember that space is an unpredictable place.

Therefore, as previously written FocusScientists warn that invisible asteroids could collide with Earth at any moment.
