Restrictions will apply to private Alpha Bank, Russian propagandists and possibly diamonds, but they are still in question. Companies and individuals in other countries collaborating with the “Wagnerians” will also be subject to sanctions.
The European Union is preparing to adopt the 10th package of sanctions against the Russian Federation, it will be introduced on the anniversary of the full-scale occupation of Ukraine. On Monday, February 13, Politico writes, citing European officials and diplomats.
What new restrictions will be introduced against Russia?
- financial sanctions. The EU is preparing to impose restrictions on four banks in Russia, including Alfa Bank, Russia’s largest private financial institution, founded by Russian-Israeli billionaire Mikhail Fridman.
- Prohibition of Russian participation in the boards of critical infrastructure enterprises in the European Union. For example, we are talking about electrical networks or gas supply.
- 130 entities and citizens of the Russian Federation will be subject to new sanctions. These include Russian officials, high-ranking officers, propagandists, as well as companies and individuals from other states that are in any way connected with or collaborating with the Wagner PMC in an all-out war in Russia. Journalists write that it is probably Iran and the African country Mali.
- The new trade bans will cover EU imports of Russian rubber, asphalt and bitumen, as well as exports of European goods to Russia, including trucks, construction vehicles, pumps and other equipment used in the construction industry.
- The 10th package will also impose additional restrictions on the export of electronic components that the aggressor country can use to manufacture weapons.
- The ban on the supply of Russian diamonds still exists.
It is currently unknown what the final package of sanctions against Russia will be.
The new restrictions are scheduled to be discussed on Wednesday, February 15.
