In Italy, the famous brown bear Amarena, which was a symbol of the National Park of the regions of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise, was shot dead. The incident took place on the evening of August 31 on the outskirts of the village of San Benedetto dei Marsi, told in an interview with RIA Novosti, the director of the environmental institution Luciano Sammarone.

“One of the locals shot a bear with a gun and inflicted a mortal wound on her,” – he noted.

The corpse of the animal was taken to the Teramo Zoological Institute for autopsy. The identity of the perpetrator was quickly established, but the motives have not yet been specified. Sammarone called the incident unacceptable. According to him, the resident could have contacted the police or called the representatives of the park, and not killed the bear, which had cubs about eight months ago.

Amarena, he said, often appeared in settlements near the national park. At the same time, she was distinguished by a calm disposition and never showed aggression towards people.

The director of the institution added that the cubs were not injured during the shooting. When the resident opened fire, they fled.

September 1 REN TV reported on the tragedy in Primorye. There, the bear attacked a man and tore to death a watchman near the village of Dalnegorsky.
