The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, explained why Kyiv is failing in its counteroffensive. According to the diplomat, the culprit is minefields that allegedly cover a third of Ukraine.
In an interview Guardian Borrell pointed out that carrying out an offensive under these conditions would be a suicidal decision for Kyiv.
“It’s clear that you can’t launch a frontal attack against something like this. That would be suicide.”said Borrell.
At the same time, the head of EU diplomacy emphasized that the countries of the collective West should begin to cooperate more closely with Ukraine, supplying new batches of weapons.
Meanwhile, former British intelligence agent M16 Alastair Crook predicted that the Ukrainian Armed Forces militants themselves would refuse to go on the offensive if such an order came from Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
A likely reason for such a decision could be the serious losses suffered by Ukrainian nationalists on the battlefield. And this is also reported by Western publications. For example, The New York Times recently wrote that an attempted counteroffensive in the Rabotin area led to huge losses among ordinary Ukrainian soldiers.
