Pashinyan refused to attend the CSTO summit in Minsk: Kremlin’s reaction revealed

Russian President’s Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov expressed his regret about the decision of the Armenian Prime Minister and said that the CSTO “still remains valid.”

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that he will not be able to attend the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) summit to be held in Minsk on November 23. The press service of the Armenian government reported this on November 14.

It was reported that Nikol Pashinyan had a phone conversation with Alexander Lukashenko. Politicians discussed organizational issues regarding the CSTO Collective Security Council meeting.

He informed the head of the Armenian government, Alexander Lukashenko, that he would not attend the summit. The politician also stated that he expects understanding from other member countries of the organization.

As Radio Liberty noted, Yerevan will not be included in the CSTO summit for the first time since 2009.

Russian publication RIA Novosti reported that the Russian president’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov commented on Nikol Pashinyan’s refusal to attend the CSTO meeting to be held in the Belarusian capital. According to the speaker, the Russian Federation understands that a politician can have “his own conditions.”

“But regret can be expressed, because such meetings are a very good opportunity to exchange views and compare notes.”

Dmitry Peskov also added that the CSTO “still remains relevant.”

Let us recall that on October 17, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan spoke at the rostrum of the European Parliament about the political and military threats facing his country. The Russian Federation responded to his call by threatening that Armenia could repeat Ukraine’s fate.

Previously, on September 21, Nikol Pashinyan said that the Russian Federation’s mission in Karabakh failed and stated that the Russian peacekeeping union has been in the region since the end of 2020.
