They wanted to influence the European Parliament elections: a Russian spy network appeared in the EU – media

According to the spokesman of the Polish Coordinating Minister of Special Services Jacek Dobrzynski, the network’s activities were carried out through the Voice of Europe information portal, where pro-Russian materials, interviews and comments on international events were published.

The intelligence services of Poland, the Czech Republic and other EU countries have uncovered a Russian-financed spy network trying to influence European Parliament elections. Polish Special Services Coordinating Minister Jacek Dobrzynski reported this to Radio Liberty on March 28.

According to Dobrzhinsky, the aim of the alleged Russian spies was to support Russia’s interests in Europe and to harm EU countries and institutions through disinformation, including, in particular, information about the war in Ukraine. One of the aims was to discredit Ukraine.

The activities of the network were carried out through the information portal Voice-of-Europe.eu, where pro-Russian materials, interviews and comments on international events were published.

According to Dobrzynski, the portal was created to spread propaganda in favor of Russia and weaken the position of Poland and other EU countries.

It is assumed that the spread of disinformation is aimed, among other things, at influencing the European Parliament elections.

According to the Polish Internal Security Agency, one of the participants in the network is a Polish citizen with connections to political circles in Poland and Europe. He is accused of carrying out tasks ordered by Russia, including propaganda and disinformation activities.

During searches in Warsaw and Tikha, security forces seized documents, data storage media and a significant amount of money.

Previously, it became known that on March 27, the Czech Republic imposed sanctions on former people’s deputy Viktor Medvedchuk and his partner Artem Marchevsky, who are in Russia, as well as the Voice of Europe company registered in the Czech Republic.

Also on March 27, it was reported that Lieutenant General Yaroslav Gromadzinsky was recalled from his post as commander of the European Union’s multinational rapid response force Eurocorps due to the espionage scandal.
