The Leleka LR modification was developed at the request of the Ukrainian artillery, which needed a UAV that could fly for a long time and very frequently.
Leleka, one of Ukraine’s top reconnaissance drones, is constantly being modernized and equipped with systems that use non-standard frequencies for better radar warfare (EW), but the Russian military is constantly looking for ways to detect and shoot down it. An employee of the Pilot Training Center with the call sign “Orpheus” talked about this in an interview with the UNIAN agency.
The Leleka LR (long-range) drone, like any unmanned system in combat, requires improvements, and the new version, assembled outside Ukraine according to NATO standards, has received an improved anti-jamming system. Similar technologies (SRP antennas) are used on aircraft and non-standard frequencies that no one has used in Ukraine before.
The expert says that for Russian electronic warfare units this is a new product, they have not yet learned how to work with it. However, the troops of the aggressor country do not stand still and are constantly looking for ways to open frequencies against Ukrainian drones.
“If you constantly use non-standard communication channels, constantly change them, constantly change equipment, it will be more difficult for the enemy to counter this, says Orpheus. “The essence of the current war: Everyone is constantly trying to surprise each other, trying to achieve some kind of surprise in order to rebuild the electronic intelligence system.”
Let us also remind that the Leleka LR drone was developed at the request of the Ukrainian artillery, which needed a UAV that could fly for a very long time, fly very far and have a stable connection. So this Ukrainian “bird” can stay in the air for up to 4 hours. And the communication channel range is up to 90km in real time.
The drone has an optical module with 25x optical zoom and 4x digital zoom. There are digital video processing algorithms and the operator has the ability to track static objects and the aircraft will independently keep the object in the center of the frame. This is very convenient for adjusting artillery.
The distinguishing feature of the Leleka LR is its fast and convenient descent and restart preparation time. In less than 5 minutes the “bird” is already in the air. The operating altitude of the drone is 1200-1700 m, but it can go up to 3000 m.
Previously Focus He said the Ministry of Digital Development said the Backfire drone testing has been completed. According to Minister of Digital Transformation Fedorov, a few steps remain to be taken before the new attack drone can be officially purchased for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Manufacturers are ready for mass production.
