The head of the German Ministry of Defense, Boris Pistorius, does not expect an early end to the conflict in Ukraine. He stated this upon his arrival at a meeting of the heads of military departments of NATO states in Brussels, his words are quoted by N-TV.

“I think that the end (of the conflict in Ukraine – Hereinafter approx. REN TV) is not expected in the short term. <...> Therefore, it is so important that we do not weaken our efforts (in support of Kyiv),” Pistorius said.

The head of the German Defense Ministry did not rule out the aggravation of the situation in Ukraine. At the same time, in his opinion, at the moment the Armed Forces of Ukraine do not have the ability to achieve quick success on the battlefields.

“Any military clash is always a threat of (further) escalation,” Boris Pistorius emphasized.

He added that when providing military support to Kyiv, “it is important to take into account all the risks.” According to him, without NATO support, Kyiv will quickly run out of shells, and therefore “it is important to speed up and set the right accents.”

Pistorius also warned against regular “raising the stakes” in the topic of arms supplies to Ukraine and agreed with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz that “every step must be weighed.”

Another head of the German Defense Ministry stressed that Germany “experiences little understanding” from a diplomatic point of view of the initiatives of Poland and Slovakia to transfer military aviation to Ukraine.

Russian special operation to protect Donbass

The DPR and LPR announced the aggravation of the situation in the Donbass on February 17, 2022. Then they announced the evacuation of the population.

On February 21, the heads of the republics turned to Putin with a request to recognize their independence. The President held a meeting of the Security Council, after which he recognized the LNR and the DNR. Friendship and cooperation agreements were signed with both republics, which were later ratified by the State Duma and the Federation Council.

Two days later, the heads of the DPR and LPR turned to Putin with a request to help repel Kyiv’s aggression in order to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe and civilian casualties. The next day, February 24, the Russian leader addressed the nation and announced the start of a special operation in Ukraine to protect Donbass.

On September 30, Putin and the heads of the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions signed agreements on the entry of these regions into the Russian Federation.
