The magnitude 6.4 quake, centered in Turkey’s Hatay province, was felt in Lebanon, Syria, Israel and Cyprus, according to the European Seismological Center.

“The aftershocks were felt at a distance of more than 400 kilometers by about 30 million people,” – said the European Seismological Center on the page on Twitter.

The Turkish Disaster Management Authority (AFAD) said the tremors of magnitude 6.4 were recorded at 20:04. Three minutes later, a second earthquake of magnitude 5.8 was recorded.

As previously reported, on the evening of February 20, a powerful earthquake again occurred on the border between Turkey and Syria. Its magnitude was 6.3. The epicenter was at a depth of two kilometers, 9 kilometers from Antakya in Turkey and 75 kilometers from Syrian Latakia.

Powerful tremors occurred exactly two weeks after catastrophic earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 occurred in southeastern Turkey on February 6. According to the latest data, more than 41 thousand people died as a result of the tragedy.

The tremors were so powerful that hundreds of aftershocks spread to ten provinces and even several neighboring countries, including Syria.

Earlier, Western media published calculations according to which the country’s economy lost $84 billion due to the cataclysm.
