The Japanese authorities plan to impose a ban on the supply of cars with an engine capacity of more than 1.9 liters to Russia against the backdrop of the Ukrainian conflict. Writes about it Yomiuri.

According to the newspaper, we are talking about the import of both new and used models into the Russian Federation. Also, the country of the rising sun wants to completely ban the supply of hybrids and electric vehicles to Russia.

The journalists of the publication calculated that in 2022, the export of cars has become the main export item of Japan to Russia. The country earned about 250 billion yen (about $1.8 billion) from this. The restrictions could bring exports down to 100 billion yen ($720 million).

The ban could take effect as early as August.

Recall that in July the Japanese truck and bus manufacturer Isuzu left the Russian market. Part of the automaker’s assets was transferred to partners from the Russian Federation.
