“The situation in Ukraine is unique”: they told what it is about the creation of a court for the Russian Federation in Latvia

Riga assured the Ukrainians that not a single crime of the Russian invaders will go unpunished, but that takes time.

Latvian Prosecutor General Juris Stukans believes that a special tribunal to investigate the crimes of the Russian Federation can be established in one day, but a request is required. He stated this in a new interview for the LSM portal.

From the first days of a large-scale war, the international community has been collecting evidence of the crimes committed by the Russian invaders in Ukraine. As the representative of Latvia noted, in the last year enough has accumulated to create a special court for the Russian Federation even tomorrow.

“The case of Ukraine is unique in that special services and international institutions record these crimes from the first day of a full-scale invasion. There is enough evidence to talk about the consideration of cases,” said Juris Stukans. said.

The Latvian Prosecutor General’s Office assures that the perpetrators will not go unpunished for a while. Also, Ukrainian refugees in Latvia continue to share their stories constantly and their testimony will be taken into account when creating an international tribunal.

“Unfortunately, the countries are not yet ready to sign the agreement, but Ukraine itself will never lose its rights, and today there are several cases against certain individuals. There is no reason to think that anyone will go unpunished,” said Juris Stukans.

Recall how on February 28, Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said that the creation of a special court for the Russian Federation is underway. The ministry continues to work to expand the international coalition to hold the Russian military and political leadership accountable for crimes in Ukraine.

On February 16, the Slovak National Council recognized the current Russian regime as a terrorist and Russia itself as a country that supports terrorism. The text of the resolution also mentions the support given to the establishment of a special court.
